Why Go Green?

“Green Awareness” includes concerns about rising energy costs, watering restrictions, global warming, waste reduction, improved health and quality of life.  “Green” design and building can be categorized into:

  • Energy Efficiency;
  • Healthy Atmosphere;
  • Resource Conservation;
  • Waste Management;
  • Sustainable Construction; and
  • Environmental Awareness.
Green products and techniques are topics that should be part every construction project. Upfront planning can have a significant impact on the long-term performance and enjoyment of a new home.

In the near future it's likely that homes built without performance standards may be considered obsolete.  Energy Star, Florida Water Star and EPA Indoor airPLUS programs are all admirable achievements, but the ultimate standard is LEED green certified.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. Go to www.usgbc.org for additional information.
