Miller Residence

The Millers were a young couple, planning a family. They desired a home that would work for a young family and suit their needs for a long as possible as the household grew. Their property was not very large so we recognized that the design needed a small footprint.

We settled on a "New Orleans" theme for the design of their home. While it's not very common, they decided to put all of the bedrooms on the second floor. This is often desired by families with young children and in this case also helped to reduce the size of the home's footprint. Additionally, second floor bedrooms are common in New Orleans because of the prominence of flooding.

The New Orleans theme was used throughout the house as a basis for selecting products and materials. Lighting and plumbing fixtures, trim details, flooring and colors were selected to meld with the theme. The balcony and used brick porches were also influenced by the theme.
