Extra Installation Costs
Caution: Some hardware requires extra labor to install. Be wary of brands that supply several little boxes with each item.

Window Treatments
Confirm the type of window treatments that are going to be used. Specifically, window shutters that are added to French doors can obstruct the use of Lever Handle Door Knobs.

hints and tips:
Door Hardware Vendors
It's likely we will purchase the door hardware from the same vendor that supplies the doors to the project. Some of the vendors do not have fancy showrooms or a very wide selection of inventory products to touch and feel. It's also likely that we may decide to purchase all the door hardware from an online vendor. Please be courteous to our local vendors and limit the time they invest or the use of their showroom should you want to order online.

Clad French Door Systems
French doors that are purchased in conjunction with the window package from suppliers like, Anderson, Hurd, Jeld-Wen or Marvin, usually come with their own hardware. As a result, the handlesets may not match with interior door hardware. Sometimes we can swap out the door hardware at extra cost but it often depends on the compatibility with available designs.

Panic Hardware
Locking exterior doorknobs or levers are required to perform a panic function that allows exit without unlocking the hardware. Be forewarned, its easy to lock yourself out of the house if you forget to unlock the handleset. Locking handlesets offer the benefit of being able to lock the door without a key, so they are worth considering, however a handleset will never offer the security of a deadbolt lock.

Standard Bore and Deadbolt
Most doors are ordered with the holes drilled where the doorknob goes and deadbolt if required. Most of the major "American" manufacturers adhere to the same standard. However, some obscure hardware differs and there is considerable additional expense required for onsite door prep and hardware installation of these unique brands.
