general information:
  • Specialty Door selections are required before construction starts.
  • Specialty Door information needs to be displayed properly on the construction drawings.
  • Some specialty door installations require special engineering and there can be extremely long order and delivery times.

Please review information and tips below. The diversity of selections is tremendous and takes some Buyers much more time than expected. We suggest limiting your selections to a few suppliers. Comparisons can be very time consuming and may not result in large cost savings. We have literature available at the office or you can contact one of our authorized vendors.

Every Selection and Decision involves common procedures. Many items listed are based on our "Standard" features package. Please check your specifications for features unique to your home.
  • Review your Specifications for Product Information and Allowances.
  • Review the NAHB Performance Guidelines.
  • Review the Use and Care Guidelines.
  • A Worksheet may be provided for your use.
After making your selection, sign the Order Authorization or corresponding Allowance Invoice and forward it to us for execution. No orders will be placed without authorization and payment. If orders are not placed by their deadlines, construction may be delayed.

important information:
Unknown Applications
We installed disappearing glass walls and bi-fold French doors long before anyone else was doing them. Even before structural engineering was required. Nearly every application of specialty exterior doors involves designs or details that we haven't done before. Recent applications started with an understanding of the products available and then a design created to work within the capabilities. Completely unique applications would likely be cost-prohibitive these days. These one-of-a-kind applications can take a tremendous amount of time for planning, engineering, approvals, ordering and installation.

Bring the Outdoors In
A wide-open expanse between outdoors and indoors creates an environment that is hard to beat; especially for entertaining. When implemented well, walls that disappear or fold out of the way, can be one of the most dramatic design elements, completely changing the way a home feels and functions.

Every Day Use
While these specialty door applications can be really cool when they are used, they can also be a burden if their use is needed on a daily basis. The most common concern is access to a covered porch or outdoor dining area. If the only access to an outdoor area is through the opening of a specialty door, consider how the ease of use on a daily basis may or may not be acceptable.
